Alice Olivia's first single 'Lovers' from the up coming EP 'Wanderlands'.
Having already amassed 16 million views on YouTube and feted by the likes of Grammy award-winning DJ/producer Mark Ronson, BBC Introducing finalist Alice Olivia, looks set to continue her rapid ascent from internet sensation to tastemaker consciousness with the release of her latest single, ‘Lovers’.
Rewind a few years and Olivia began her career by uploading a collection of covers and original songs onto YouTube. Her cover of Ed Sheeran’s ‘I See Fire’ proved an instant hit, garnering international attention and accruing 30,000 views in the space of 24 hours, creating the type of dedicated fan-base that most major label artists can only dream of, literally overnight.
A frenzy of media interest this summer has seen Olivia flying back and forth to New York to shoot a YouTube-commissioned mini documentary, alongside a recent feature in the Sun’s ‘Fabulous’ magazine and an acclaimed debut performance at the Isle Of Wight festival.
With all of this attention it wasn’t long before her contemporaries began to sit up and take notice: impressed with her distinctly UK vocal and preternatural song-writing capabilities, Mark Ronson recently offered up his own stylist Sophie Lopez (Muse, Dizzee Rascal, Miike Snow) to work on Alice’s latest campaign and video shoot.
Having spent the past couple of years honing her sound, Alice has found her rhythm with producer Lipso and the icy, soul-tinged tone of ‘Lovers’. Building against a backdrop of slow-burning rnb, weightless vocals and icy, gothic beats, the lamenting message of love in an impossible relationship is conveyed ethereally by a natural vocal and presence that lies somewhere between raw power and strange mystique.
An exciting new voice has emerged.
